I’ve built a webpage which lets people select their country from a dropdown menu and then clearly see which GiveWell-recommended charities are tax-deductible in their country, and click through to donate via the best method. (It’ll show this for the new recommendations as soon as they’re announced around December 1st - exciting times!)  You can see it at:

http://effectivealtruismhub.com/actions/donating

After you’ve selected your country, this page provides buttons to donate to the charities via the most tax-efficient means. For example, because the Against Malaria Foundation is registered in most countries, you’ll see links to donate to it directly. But the links for other charities often go via EA organisations that provide tax deductibility for them in their respective countries (GiveWell for the US, Charity Science for Canada, the GWWC Trust for the UK, and GBS for Switzerland).

The page also shows short pitches for the charities. My hope is that it will be a useful place for EAs to point international audiences to when encouraging them to donate - it saves having to type out complex descriptions of tax-deductibility for different charities, which I found myself having to do way too often before deciding to make this page. (“If you’re in the UK then a deworming charity you can support is SCI,” I’d say, “but if you’re in the US then Deworm the World is tax-deductible, except you can give to either via GiveWell, and if you’re elsewhere it’s a little more complicated, but...”)

I’m happy to broaden this out to other popular charities besides those recommended by GiveWell if people would find this helpful. If you have any other helpful information about tax-deductibility, share it in the comments!

This is awesome Tom, keep up the good work!

Thanks Tom, this looks great. I'd broaden it out to include Giving What We Can's recommended charities.

But you're biased, Toby - you founded Giving What We Can! Looking more objectively, in the countries mentioned on the site, it's possible to donate to one or more GiveWell recommended charities. Also, offering extra choices can have a paralytic effect.

Tom does mention AMF. Unless he's trying to tell us something about the future of GiveWell...
